Victor Jory

Victor Jory (November 23, 1902 – August 10, 1982) was a Canadian-American actor and dancer whose career encompassed film, stage, and television over more than half a century. Born in Dawson City, Yukon, Jory initially trained as a dancer and performed in musical theater before transitioning to acting. He made his film debut in the early 1930s and quickly became a familiar presence in Hollywood productions, appearing in over 100 films. His notable roles included appearances in some of cinema's most iconic pictures: he played Jonas Wilkerson, the Carpetbagger, in Gone with the Wind (1939) and had roles in The Wizard of Oz (1939). Jory's distinctive voice and commanding presence made him particularly suited to villain and authority figure roles. Beyond his film work, he maintained an active career in television, appearing in series and specials throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. He also continued to perform in theater, demonstrating his versatility as a performer across multiple mediums. Jory's longevity in entertainment and consistent quality of work made him a respected figure throughout Hollywood's Golden Age.
