Victor Espinoza
Triple Crown winner (2014), thoroughbred racing jockey
Victor Espinoza (May 23, 1978 –) is a Mexican-American thoroughbred racing jockey who achieved one of sports' greatest accomplishments by winning the Triple Crown in 2014 on the legendary horse American Pharoah. Born in Mexico, Espinoza immigrated to the United States as a child and grew up around racing culture in California. He developed into one of thoroughbred racing's top jockeys, known for his skill, determination, and ability to handle high-pressure situations. For decades, the Triple Crown—winning the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes in a single year—had eluded horsemen, with the last winner being Secretariat in 1973. When American Pharoah won all three races under Espinoza's guidance in 2014, it became one of sports' most celebrated achievements in decades. The victory cemented Espinoza's place in racing history and made him a cultural icon. Beyond American Pharoah, Espinoza has won numerous other prestigious races and maintains an active career as one of thoroughbred racing's most respected riders, demonstrating longevity and consistency at the highest levels of the sport.
