Theresa Saldana
Actress, victims' rights advocate, 'Kolchak' star
Theresa Saldana (August 20, 1954 – June 6, 2021) was an American actress and victim's rights advocate whose career in entertainment was marked by her distinctive roles in television and her courageous public advocacy following a traumatic personal experience. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she began her entertainment career in the late 1970s, appearing in various television shows and films. She gained recognition for her recurring role as Loretta Fontane in the cult television series 'Kolchak: The Night Stalker,' where she worked alongside Darren McGavin. She also appeared in other television series and films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. In 1982, Saldana's life changed dramatically when she was stabbed multiple times by an obsessed fan in a random attack on the street. The violent assault could have ended her life, but she survived and made a remarkable recovery. Rather than retreating from public view, Saldana transformed her traumatic experience into purpose-driven advocacy. She became a prominent victims' rights activist and advocated strongly for victim protection laws and assistance programs. She appeared in the television movie 'Victims!' (1984), which dramatized her own experience. Saldana's courageous public discussion of her assault and her extensive advocacy work helped bring attention to victim support issues and personal safety. Her legacy extends beyond her acting career to her meaningful contributions to public awareness and policy regarding victims' rights. She passed away in 2021 at the age of 66.

Thinking about the name
Theresa
Greek origin
“Derived from the Greek therizo (to harvest) or possibly from Thera, Theresa was popularized by Saint Theresa of Avila, a Spanish mystic and reformer. The name carries intellectual depth and spiritual resonance, long beloved for its balance of strength and grace across European royal families and literature.”
