Theresa May
Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Conservative Party leader
Theresa Mary May (born January 1, 1956) is a British politician who served as the 76th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Conservative Party from July 2016 to July 2019. Born in Eastbourne, East Sussex, May studied geography at Oxford University before beginning her career in banking and then transitioning to politics. She was elected Member of Parliament for Maidenhead in 1997 and held various government positions before becoming Home Secretary in 2010, a role she maintained for six years. As Home Secretary, she oversaw significant changes to immigration policy and law enforcement, becoming known for her tough stance on security issues. Following David Cameron's resignation after the Brexit referendum, May became Prime Minister and took on the enormously challenging task of negotiating Britain's exit from the European Union. Her premiership was dominated by Brexit negotiations, which proved extraordinarily complex and contentious, with Parliament deeply divided over the terms of withdrawal. Despite considerable political pressure and multiple failed attempts to pass a withdrawal agreement through Parliament, May demonstrated determination and political resilience. Her time as Prime Minister was marked by significant constitutional challenges and intense public scrutiny. After stepping down in 2019, she returned to backbench Parliament and has continued to be an influential voice in British politics. May's legacy includes her role as Britain's second female prime minister and her navigation of one of Britain's most complex political challenges.

Thinking about the name
Theresa
Greek origin
“Derived from the Greek therizo (to harvest) or possibly from Thera, Theresa was popularized by Saint Theresa of Avila, a Spanish mystic and reformer. The name carries intellectual depth and spiritual resonance, long beloved for its balance of strength and grace across European royal families and literature.”
