Susannah York

Susannah York (9 January 1941 – 8 January 2011) was a British-American actress and author who became one of the most versatile performers of her era. Born in London, she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before launching a career that spanned film, television, and theatre. York gained international recognition with her role in 'They Shoot Horses, Don't They?' (1969), which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She appeared in notable films including 'Superman' (1978) as Superman's mother, Lara, 'A Man for All Seasons' (1966), and 'Images' (1972), directed by Robert Altman. Beyond acting, York was an accomplished author, writing several novels and children's books. She was also a dedicated environmental activist and founded the Sustaining Earth Foundation. York's career exemplified her commitment to artistic integrity and social causes, making her a respected figure in both entertainment and activism until her death in 2011.
