Sterling Price

Sterling Price (September 14, 1809 – September 29, 1867) was an American military officer, politician, and businessman from Missouri who achieved prominence during the American Civil War as a Confederate general. Born in Prince William County, Virginia, Price eventually relocated to Missouri, where he established himself in business and politics before the war. As a general in the Confederate Army, Price commanded forces in the western theater and participated in several major engagements, including the Battle of Wilson's Creek (1861) and subsequent campaigns in Missouri and Arkansas. His military operations focused on defending Missouri's strategic position and preventing Union advancement into Confederate territory, though Confederate forces ultimately could not hold the state permanently.
