Sheryl Swoopes

Sheryl Denise Swoopes (March 25, 1971 – present) is an American professional basketball player widely regarded as one of the greatest female basketball players in history. Born in Texas, Swoopes first gained national attention during her college career at Texas Tech University, where she was a standout performer. She became the first player to sign with the newly formed Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in 1996, before the league officially launched in 1997, cementing her place in women's basketball history. Playing primarily as a forward, Swoopes was a dynamic, versatile player known for her scoring ability, athleticism, and competitive drive. She won three Olympic gold medals representing the United States (1996, 2000, 2004) and was a six-time WNBA All-Star.
