Sheryl Sandberg
Facebook COO; author of 'Lean In'; women's leadership advocate
Sheryl Kara Sandberg (August 28, 1969 – present) is an American technology executive, author, and philanthropist who became one of the most influential female leaders in Silicon Valley. Born in Washington, D.C., Sandberg earned degrees from Harvard University and the University of Michigan before working at the World Bank and the U.S. Treasury Department. She joined Google as its first female engineer, later becoming Vice President of Global Online Sales and Operations, where she played a key role in developing Google's advertising business. In 2008, she joined Facebook as Chief Operating Officer, a position she held for fourteen years until 2022, making her one of the highest-ranking women in technology. During her tenure, Sandberg was instrumental in Facebook's business growth and professionalization, managing operations and advertising strategy during the company's extraordinary expansion. Beyond her executive role, Sandberg became a prominent voice advocating for women's advancement in business and leadership. Her 2013 book 'Lean In' became a bestseller and sparked widespread cultural debate about workplace gender dynamics, flexible work arrangements, and the challenges facing ambitious women. Though the book also drew criticism for its focus on individual solutions rather than systemic change, it undeniably influenced corporate dialogue about diversity and inclusion. Following personal tragedies, including the death of her first husband in 2015, Sandberg wrote 'Option B' addressing resilience and grief. Her influence on discussions of women's leadership and workplace equality has been substantial.

Thinking about the name
Sheryl
French origin
“Derived from the French chérie, meaning 'beloved' or 'dear,' Sheryl became a distinctly American feminine name in the mid-20th century. It represents a sophisticated yet accessible choice that gained popularity post-1950, offering a polished alternative to the more casual Sherry. The name conveys warmth, approachability, and a touch of vintage elegance.”
