Oscar Palmer Robertson (November 24, 1938 – present) is an American former professional basketball player widely regarded as one of the greatest all-around guards and basketball players in history. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Robertson earned the nickname 'The Big O' for his exceptional size, skill, and versatility at the guard position. He played college basketball at the University of Cincinnati, where he set numerous scoring records before being drafted by the Cincinnati Royals in 1960. Robertson revolutionized the point guard position with his combination of size, athleticism, court vision, and scoring ability, averaging 25.7 points and 9.5 assists per game over his 14-season NBA career. He won the NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1971 alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and was named NBA Most Valuable Player in 1964. Robertson was a 12-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA selection, and became the first player to achieve a triple-double average over an entire season (1961-62). Beyond his on-court achievements, Robertson was a civil rights activist and players' union leader who fought for better conditions and respect for NBA players.
