Matt Groening

Matthew Abram Groening (born February 15, 1954) is an American cartoonist and animator best known as the creator of two of television's most acclaimed and influential animated series: The Simpsons and Futurama. The Simpsons, which premiered in 1989, became a cultural phenomenon that has run for over 30 seasons, making it the longest-running American animated television series and one of the longest-running scripted television programs overall. The show's satirical take on American family life, pop culture, and politics has made it both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Groening's distinctive art style, characterized by yellow skin tones and exaggerated features, became iconic and instantly recognizable. Beyond The Simpsons, Groening created Futurama, a sci-fi animated comedy that, despite cancellations and revivals, developed a devoted cult following for its intelligent humor and creative worldbuilding. His work has influenced countless animators and comedy writers. Groening was born in Portland, Oregon, and drew inspiration from his hometown for many Simpsons locations.
