Malcolm Fraser

Malcolm Fraser (January 21, 1930 – March 20, 2015) was an Australian politician and the 31st Prime Minister of Australia, serving from 1975 to 1983. Fraser came to power following the controversial dismissal of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam by Governor-General Sir John Kerr, an event that remains politically contentious in Australian history. Despite initially benefiting from the political upheaval, Fraser established himself as a significant prime minister who navigated Australia through the mid-to-late Cold War period and presided over substantial economic growth. He was particularly noted for his progressive stance on refugee policy, championing the acceptance of Vietnamese refugees following the fall of Saigon, which significantly shaped Australian immigration policy and multicultural demographics.
