Lynn Seymour

Lynn Seymour (born March 8, 1939) is a Canadian prima ballerina who became one of the 20th century's most celebrated and versatile dancers. Born in Wainwright, Alberta, Seymour showed early promise and was invited to join the Sadler's Wells Ballet School in London at age 16. She rose to prominence with the Royal Ballet, becoming a principal dancer and muse to choreographer Frederick Ashton, who created numerous roles specifically for her. Seymour's extraordinary ability to convey emotion and psychological depth through dance made her particularly suited to Ashton's narrative ballets. She achieved international fame through her partnerships, most notably with Rudolf Nureyev in the 1960s, and performed demanding roles in both classical and contemporary ballets. Her interpretations of roles like Juliet in 'Romeo and Juliet' and the titular character in 'Cinderella' showcased her dramatic range and technical prowess. Beyond performing, Seymour became a respected teacher and coach, sharing her extensive knowledge of classical technique and artistic expression.
