Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton (August 4, 1821 – February 27, 1892) was a French leather goods artisan and entrepreneur who founded one of the world's most prestigious luxury brands bearing his name. Born in Anchay, a small town in eastern France, Vuitton apprenticed under master craftsmen before moving to Paris in 1837. He established his reputation creating custom trunks for wealthy clientele, particularly the French empress Eugénie. In 1854, he opened his first store on Rue Neuve des Capucines in Paris, introducing innovative trunk designs that were lighter, stackable, and more durable than existing leather trunks. His distinctive flat-bottomed trunks with the damier canvas pattern became highly sought after among European aristocracy and travelers. Recognizing the threat of counterfeiting, Vuitton introduced his now-iconic LV monogram canvas in 1896 (after his death), revolutionizing luxury branding. His genius lay in combining functional innovation with elegant design, creating products that were both beautiful and practical. Upon his death, his son Georges-Louis took over, expanding the brand internationally. The Louis Vuitton brand became synonymous with luxury, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. Today, as part of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE, it remains one of the world's most valuable luxury brands, demonstrating the enduring appeal of Vuitton's original vision.
