Leon Trotsky
Russian revolutionary; Red Army leader; Marxist theorist; opponent of Stalin
Lev Davidovich Bronstein, known as Leon Trotsky (November 7, 1879 – August 21, 1940), was a Russian revolutionary, military leader, and Marxist theorist who played a pivotal role in the Russian Revolution of 1917. Born into a Jewish merchant family, Trotsky became a revolutionary early in his life and was exiled to Siberia for his political activities. After the October Revolution, he emerged as Commissar of War and architect of the Red Army, transforming it into a formidable military force that defeated the White Army during the Russian Civil War. As a gifted orator and prolific writer, Trotsky articulated the theory of 'permanent revolution,' which proposed that socialist revolution must spread internationally to succeed. After Lenin's death, Trotsky engaged in a bitter power struggle with Stalin, ultimately losing and being exiled from the Soviet Union in 1929. In exile, Trotsky remained a vocal critic of Stalinism and attempted to build an international communist opposition movement. His ideas influenced various leftist movements worldwide, though Stalin's regime systematically eradicated his legacy within the Soviet Union. Trotsky was assassinated in Mexico by a Soviet agent in 1940. His intellectual contributions to revolutionary theory and his uncompromising commitment to his principles remain influential in leftist political discourse.

Latin origin
“Derived from the Latin 'leo,' meaning 'lion,' this name carries regal strength and courage across cultures. Leo has ancient roots in Roman naming and zodiac tradition, yet it remains fresh and contemporary. The name balances nobility with accessibility—a lion's heart with a friendly smile.”
