John Marwood Cleese (born October 27, 1939) is a British comedian, actor, screenwriter, and producer who has been a prominent figure in comedy for over five decades. Born in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, Cleese studied law and psychology at Cambridge University before joining the Footlights comedy troupe. He co-founded Monty Python in 1969, and the group's innovative, absurdist comedy style revolutionized television and comedy globally.
