Isiah Washington IV (born August 3, 1971) is an American actor who rose to prominence in the 2000s through his television and film work. He is perhaps best known for his recurring role as Dr. Preston Burke on the hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy from 2005 to 2007, where he was part of the show's ensemble cast during its early, highly successful seasons. Beyond Grey's Anatomy, Washington has appeared in numerous films including Paid in Full (2002), a crime drama based on true events, and Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2005). He has also had roles in other television series such as Suits and Scandal. Washington has been involved in various controversies throughout his career, particularly regarding comments made in 2007 that led to his departure from Grey's Anatomy. Despite career challenges, he has continued working in entertainment and has also pursued interests outside of acting. His early 2000s presence represented a significant moment in television representation and diversity in medical dramas.
