Evan Williams
Co-founder of Blogger and Twitter, internet entrepreneur
Evan Williams (born March 31, 1972) is an American internet entrepreneur whose companies have had profound impacts on digital communication and the evolution of the web. Born in Nebraska, Williams displayed entrepreneurial instincts early in his career, initially working in technology and telecommunications before founding Pyra Labs in 1999, which developed Blogger, one of the first widely-used blogging platforms. Blogger's acquisition by Google in 2003 for a reported $100 million was one of the company's early major acquisitions and demonstrated the value of the blogging concept. Following this success, Williams co-founded Twitter in 2006 alongside Jack Dorsey and Noah Glass, serving as its first CEO. Twitter's innovation of the short-form status update fundamentally changed how people communicate, share information, and engage in public discourse. The platform became a cultural phenomenon and critical tool for news dissemination, activism, and public conversation globally. Williams left his leadership role at Twitter but remained an investor and advisor. His subsequent ventures have included Medium, a platform for long-form digital publishing, reflecting his ongoing interest in how technology shapes communication and publishing. Williams has also become a prominent philanthropist and investor through his venture capital efforts and his charitable foundation. His contributions to the architecture of the modern internet have made him one of the most influential figures in technology history.

Thinking about the name
Evan
Welsh origin
“The English form of the Welsh Ifan, derived from the Hebrew Yohanan, meaning 'God is gracious.' Evan became massively popular in the late 1990s and 2000s, offering a modern, masculine sound without being trendy or dated. It strikes a perfect balance between approachable and distinguished.”
