Waymon Tisdale (1964–2020) was an American professional basketball player and jazz musician who achieved success in both sports and music. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Tisdale was drafted second overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 1985 NBA Draft, becoming one of the first players to be selected straight from high school, establishing an early benchmark for that path to professional basketball. Standing 6'9", he played power forward and was known for his scoring ability, versatility, and basketball intelligence. During his 12-season NBA career, Tisdale was a three-time NBA All-Star and played for the Indiana Pacers, Phoenix Suns, and Sacramento Kings. He averaged over 15 points per game for his career and was respected as a reliable, hard-working player. After retiring from basketball in 1997, Tisdale pursued his passion for jazz music, becoming an accomplished jazz bassist and recording multiple albums.
