Vincent van Gogh

Vincent Willem van Gogh (March 30, 1853 – July 29, 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose works profoundly influenced modern art and continue to captivate audiences worldwide. Born in Groot-Zundert, a small village in Brabant, van Gogh initially pursued a career in missionary work before turning to painting in his late twenties. Despite receiving little formal training, he developed a distinctive style characterized by bold, expressive brushstrokes, vivid colors, and emotional intensity. His most celebrated works include The Starry Night (1889), Sunflowers (1888), and The Night Café (1888), which showcase his ability to transform ordinary subjects into powerful emotional statements. Struggling throughout his life with financial instability, loneliness, and mental illness, van Gogh created over 2,100 artworks in just one decade. Though largely unappreciated during his lifetime, selling only one painting, his legacy transformed completely after his death. Van Gogh's influence on Expressionism, Fauvism, and modern art cannot be overstated; he is now recognized as one of history's greatest artists.
