Uzziah

Uzziah, also known as Azariah, was a King of Judah who reigned during the 8th century BCE, a crucial period in ancient Levantine history. According to biblical accounts in 2 Chronicles and 2 Kings, Uzziah inherited the throne at a young age and under the guidance of the prophet Zechariah, he initiated religious and military reforms that restored Judah's power and prosperity. He expanded Jerusalem's fortifications, reformed the military structure with advanced siege technology, and extended Judah's territorial control and influence in the region. His economic policies promoted agriculture and trade, contributing to widespread prosperity throughout his kingdom. However, biblical tradition records that in his latter years, pride led him to attempt to perform priestly duties in the Temple, an act forbidden to kings, which resulted in his contracting leprosy. This affliction forced him into seclusion during the final years of his reign. Uzziah's reign represents a significant moment of strength and stability in the Kingdom of Judah, though it ultimately ended in tragedy.
