Tam Dalyell

Tam Dalyell (September 9, 1932 – January 25, 2017) was a Scottish Labour politician and Member of Parliament who had one of the longest parliamentary careers in British history, representing West Lothian from 1962 to 1987 and then Linlithgow from 1987 to 2005. Born Thomas Dalyell into a Scottish gentry family, he became known as 'The Laird' due to his baronetcy. Dalyell was renowned for his relentless pursuit of parliamentary scrutiny and accountability, famously asking 'too many questions' that made him both respected and occasionally feared in Westminster. He was particularly notable for his independent stance, sometimes breaking party lines when he believed principle demanded it. His famous intervention in the Falkland Islands War debate and his persistent questioning of the Belgrano sinking demonstrated his commitment to transparency and justice.
