Susannah Hoffs
Lead vocalist of The Bangles, "Walk Like an Egyptian"
Susannah Hoffs (born January 17, 1959) is an American rock musician and actress who became famous as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the 1980s band The Bangles. Born in Los Angeles, Hoffs developed her musical talents early and formed The Bangles with three other female musicians: Vicki Peterson, Debbi Peterson, and Michael Steele. The band achieved phenomenal success in the mid-to-late 1980s, becoming one of the most commercially successful all-female rock bands of their era. Their debut album "All Over the Place" established their new wave-pop rock sound, but it was their album "Different Light" that catapulted them to superstardom with the massive hit "Walk Like an Egyptian." This song became a cultural phenomenon and remains one of the most iconic 1980s hits. The Bangles' follow-up album "Everything" further cemented their success with "Eternal Flame," a power ballad that topped charts internationally. Beyond music, Hoffs pursued acting, appearing in films and television shows. The band disbanded in 1989 but reunited in the 2000s for tours and recordings. Hoffs has remained active in music throughout her career and became an influential figure representing 1980s pop-rock culture.

Thinking about the name
Susannah
Hebrew origin
“An alternative spelling of Susanna from Hebrew Shoshana meaning 'lily,' Susannah features a doubled 'h' ending that gives it a softer, more lyrical quality. This Victorian-era spelling choice emphasizes elegance and femininity, appealing to parents who appreciate historical literary references—the name appears in both biblical text and 19th-century literature. It strikes a balance between classic authority and romantic charm.”
