Sid Barrett
Pink Floyd founder, psychedelic rock pioneer
Roger Keith Barrett (January 6, 1946 – July 7, 2014), known as Syd or Sid Barrett, was a British musician, singer, and songwriter best remembered as the founder and original frontman of Pink Floyd, one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Born in Cambridge, England, Barrett co-founded Pink Floyd in 1965 and served as the band's primary songwriter and conceptual force during their formative years. His innovative approach to songwriting, experimental guitar techniques, and surreal lyrics on albums like The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967) and A Saucerful of Secrets (1968) established the band's unique psychedelic sound and helped define progressive rock. Despite his creative brilliance, Barrett struggled with mental health issues and substance use, leading to his departure from the band in 1968. After leaving Pink Floyd, he pursued a brief solo career before largely withdrawing from the public eye. Despite his limited recording output, Barrett's influence on rock music, psychedelic experimentation, and artistic innovation remains profound. He is regarded as a musical genius whose contributions to Pink Floyd and rock music history continue to inspire musicians and fascinate fans decades after his death.

Thinking about the name
Sid
French origin
“A short form of Sidney or Sidonie, deriving from the French saint name meaning 'from Saint-Denis.' Sid is punchy, approachable, and gender-neutral, with a cool, understated charm. The name has a vintage cool factor—think 1970s rock and roll—while remaining timeless and practical.”
