Sheila E.

Sheila Escovedo (born December 12, 1957), professionally known as Sheila E., is an American percussionist, singer, songwriter, and dancer who became one of the most prominent female musicians in pop and R&B music. Born into a musical family in Oakland, California, she began her career as a session and touring percussionist, eventually joining Prince's band in 1984. Her work with Prince, both on his albums and in live performances, earned her international recognition and critical acclaim. In 1985, she launched a solo career with the album 'The Glamorous Life,' which featured the hit single of the same name and established her as a distinctive artist in her own right. Sheila E.'s percussion skills, charismatic stage presence, and versatility across multiple genres—from funk and pop to world music—set her apart. She has released numerous albums, won Grammy nominations, and performed at major venues worldwide. Beyond music, Sheila E. is a trained dancer and choreographer, bringing a unique visual dimension to her performances.
