Sheena Duncan

Sheena Duncan (1932-2015) was a South African activist, educator, and human rights advocate who became one of the most prominent voices against apartheid and racial discrimination in South Africa. As the president of the Black Sash, a white women's organization dedicated to fighting apartheid through nonviolent means, Duncan demonstrated extraordinary courage in challenging the state-sanctioned system of racial segregation and oppression. Throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, she worked tirelessly to expose the brutality of apartheid, documenting human rights abuses, providing legal support to victims, and advocating for the rights of black South Africans under conditions of considerable personal risk.
