Shani Davis
First Black individual Winter Olympic gold medalist
Shani Davis (born August 13, 1982) is an American short track speed skater who made history as the first African American to win an individual gold medal at the Winter Olympics. At the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, Davis won gold in the 1000m speed skating event, breaking a significant barrier in a sport historically dominated by European competitors. He went on to win another gold medal in the 1500m at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest speed skaters of his generation.
