Biography
Ottoman Sultan (r. 1512-1520) who dramatically expanded the Ottoman Empire by conquering the Mamluk Sultanate and annexing Egypt, Syria, and the Hijaz. He is credited with establishing Ottoman dominance in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.
