Santo Trafficante Jr. (1914–1987) was an American organized crime boss who led organized crime operations in Florida and Cuba during the mid-20th century. Born into a crime family, Trafficante inherited and expanded his father's criminal empire, establishing significant control over gambling, drug trafficking, and other illicit operations in Florida and the Caribbean. He became one of the most influential mafia figures of his era, operating primarily in Tampa and Miami while also maintaining interests in Havana casinos. Trafficante's criminal organization was involved in major criminal enterprises and he had connections with other organized crime families across the United States. His activities during the Cold War era and alleged connections to various political events have made him a significant figure in historical accounts of organized crime in America. Despite numerous investigations and legal challenges, Trafficante managed to maintain his criminal empire for decades, dying of natural causes in 1987.
