Russell Simmons

Russell Simmons (born October 4, 1957) is an American entrepreneur, music executive, and media mogul who revolutionized the music industry and popular culture through his pioneering work in hip-hop. Born in Queens, New York, Simmons began his career in the late 1970s as a promoter and manager of hip-hop acts. In 1984, he co-founded Def Jam Recordings with producer Rick Rubin, which became the most influential hip-hop label of the 1980s and 1990s, launching the careers of artists including Run-D.M.C., Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and the Beastie Boys.
