Russ Carnahan
U.S. Representative from Missouri (2005-2013)
Russell Leon Carnahan (born July 10, 1958) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party who served as a U.S. Representative from Missouri's 3rd congressional district from 2005 to 2013. Born in St. Louis, Carnahan comes from a politically prominent Missouri family; his mother Jean Carnahan served as a U.S. Senator, and his brother Tom served in the U.S. House of Representatives. Russ began his political career in the Missouri House of Representatives before ascending to the U.S. Congress. During his tenure in Congress, he focused on issues including healthcare reform, environmental protection, and economic development in his district. His voting record generally aligned with mainstream Democratic positions on social and fiscal policy. Though he lost his re-election bid in 2012 during a contentious redistricting cycle, Carnahan has remained active in Missouri political circles and continues to be involved in community and political advocacy efforts.

Thinking about the name
Russ
Germanic origin
“A short form of Russell, derived from Old French 'roux,' meaning 'red' or 'red-haired.' Russ is crisp, straightforward, and carries a no-nonsense American quality, popular from the mid-20th century onward. The name suggests directness, strength, and unpretentious reliability, making it a classic choice for parents seeking simplicity.”
