Ronnie Lott (born May 8, 1959) is a retired American football safety widely considered one of the greatest defensive players in National Football League history. Playing primarily for the San Francisco 49ers from 1981 to 1990, Lott was instrumental in the team's dynasty during the 1980s, winning four Super Bowl championships (XVI, XIX, XXIII, and XXIV). Known for his fierce tackling, ball-hawking skills, and leadership on defense, Lott earned 10 Pro Bowl selections and five All-Pro honors. He famously played through a broken finger in the 1988 season and later had the finger surgically removed to continue his career, exemplifying his commitment to the game. After leaving San Francisco, Lott played for the Los Angeles Raiders, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001, cementing his legacy as a transformative figure in defensive football strategy and excellence.
