Ritchie Sambora (born 1964) is an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter best known as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for Bon Jovi, one of the best-selling rock bands of all time. Born Richard Stephen Sambora in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he joined Bon Jovi in 1983 and immediately became instrumental in shaping the band's sound. As lead guitarist on landmark albums like 'Slippery When Wet' (1986) and 'New Jersey' (1988), Sambora's energetic, hook-laden guitar riffs and contributing vocals helped define the melodic hard rock sound of the 1980s. He contributed as a songwriter to many of the band's hits, including 'Wanted Dead or Alive' and 'You Give Love a Bad Name.'
