Reed Hastings

Reed Hastings (born October 8, 1960) is an American technology entrepreneur and philanthropist best known as the co-founder and former CEO of Netflix, one of the world's most influential media companies. After founding Pure Software in 1991, which he eventually sold for $750 million, Hastings co-founded Netflix in 1997 with Marc Randolph, initially as a DVD rental-by-mail service. His visionary decision to pivot Netflix toward streaming technology in 2007, when the company was still profitable through DVD rentals, proved transformative for the entire entertainment industry. Under Hastings' leadership, Netflix grew from a niche service to a global entertainment powerhouse with hundreds of millions of subscribers and a portfolio of acclaimed original content including 'The Crown', 'Stranger Things', and 'The Queen's Gambit'. His management philosophy emphasizing radical transparency and freedom within responsibility became influential in Silicon Valley culture.
