Rashaan Salaam (October 8, 1974 – December 6, 2021) was an American football running back who became one of college football's most electrifying players in the 1990s. Playing for the University of Colorado Buffaloes, Salaam won the Heisman Trophy in 1994, one of college football's highest honors, after an explosive season that showcased his speed, agility, and receiving ability. He was selected 21st overall in the 1995 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, where he played for four seasons. Known for his exceptional talent and versatility on the field, Salaam rushed for over 2,000 yards in his college career and was regarded as one of the most explosive running backs of his era. Beyond football, Salaam was known for his thoughtful nature and advocacy work. He tragically passed away in December 2021, leaving behind a legacy as an inspiring athlete who broke barriers and achieved excellence at the highest levels of American football.
