Randy Savage
Wrestling icon; WWF Champion; legendary entertainer and persona
Randall Mario Poffo (November 15, 1952 – May 20, 2018), professionally known as "Macho Man" Randy Savage, was an American professional wrestler who became one of the most iconic figures in professional wrestling history. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Savage came from a wrestling family and developed his distinctive character combining athleticism, charisma, and theatrical intensity. Savage achieved massive popularity during WWE's (then WWF) "Golden Age" in the 1980s and early 1990s, becoming a central figure in the company's success. His feuds, particularly with Hulk Hogan, became some of professional wrestling's most memorable storylines, and his matches were known for their technical quality and storytelling. Savage's signature move, the Flying Elbow Drop, became one of wrestling's most iconic finishing moves. He was a multi-time WWF Champion and Intercontinental Champion, and his success extended to WCW (World Championship Wrestling) where he continued to main event major events. Savage was also known for his enthusiastic commentary work as a broadcast announcer. His distinctive appearance, including colorful robes, wild hair, and sunglasses, made him visually iconic and instantly recognizable. Despite struggling with various personal challenges later in life, Savage's cultural impact on professional wrestling and sports entertainment remained substantial. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame posthumously in 2015, cementing his legacy as one of wrestling's all-time greats.
