Pilar López

Pilar López (1912–2008) was a legendary Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer whose innovative work transformed flamenco dance from a folk tradition into a sophisticated art form. Born in Granada during the height of flamenco culture, López trained extensively in classical dance and flamenco, eventually developing a unique style that blended both disciplines with theatrical sophistication. In the 1950s, she founded the Ballet Español de Madrid, which became an institution for preserving and evolving flamenco artistry.
