Pedro Jaime Martínez Nogués (born October 25, 1971) is a Dominican-American former professional baseball player widely regarded as one of the greatest pitchers in Major League Baseball history. Born in Manoguayabo, Dominican Republic, Martinez displayed extraordinary talent from a young age and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers at age 16. He played for multiple teams including the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, and New York Yankees, achieving his greatest success with the Red Sox. Martinez won three Cy Young Awards (1997, 1999, 2000) and was a three-time All-Star, known for his exceptional fastball, devastating curveball, and competitive intensity. He led the Boston Red Sox to the 2004 World Series championship, one of the team's most iconic victories after an 86-year drought. His 2000 season is often considered one of the finest pitching seasons ever, with an ERA of 1.74.
