Olga Korbut

Olga Valentinovna Korbut (born October 16, 1955) is a Soviet-Belarusian artistic gymnast who fundamentally changed the sport of gymnastics through her innovative techniques and charismatic performances. At just 17 years old, she captivated the world during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where she won four Olympic medals, including three golds. Korbut's signature move—the backward giant swing on the balance beam—was revolutionary and became known as the "Korbut flip," demonstrating technical innovations that pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible in women's gymnastics.
