Nolan Bushnell

Nolan Kay Bushnell (born February 5, 1943) is an American electrical engineer and entrepreneur who is widely recognized as a founding figure of the video game industry. In 1972, Bushnell co-founded Atari with Ted Dabney, releasing Pong, one of the first commercially successful arcade games that launched the video game revolution. As Atari's president and chairman, Bushnell oversaw the company's expansion into one of the most influential technology companies of the 1970s and 1980s, publishing iconic titles like Asteroids and Centipede. Bushnell's vision for interactive entertainment transformed popular culture and established the foundations for the modern gaming industry. After leaving Atari in 1978, he founded Chuck E. Cheese's in 1977 (while still at Atari), revolutionizing family entertainment venues by combining arcade games with food service—a concept that became a cultural institution. Beyond gaming and entertainment, Bushnell has been an active investor and entrepreneur, founding multiple companies and serving as a mentor to numerous technology startups.
