Nicklas Bäckström

Nicklas Bäckström (born November 13, 1978) is a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender who enjoyed a distinguished 20-year NHL career, primarily with the Washington Capitals. Born in Västerås, Sweden, Bäckström developed his skills in Swedish youth hockey before being drafted by the Capitals in 1996. He gradually became the team's primary goaltender, developing into one of the NHL's most reliable and skilled netminders. Bäckström is best known for backstopping the Capitals to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2018, ending a 44-year drought for the franchise. During that historic playoff run, he delivered crucial performances in important games, demonstrating the veteran poise and technical mastery that defined his career. A three-time NHL All-Star, Bäckström earned the William M. Jennings Trophy (for fewest goals allowed) multiple times.
