Mervyn Leslie King, Baron King of Lothbury (born March 30, 1948) is a British economist and former Governor of the Bank of England, serving from 2003 to 2013. He is best known for his leadership during the global financial crisis of 2008, when he worked to stabilize the British banking system and maintain confidence in the economy. King studied mathematics at Cambridge University and earned a doctorate in economics from Harvard, where he was influenced by leading economic theorists. Before becoming Governor, he had an accomplished career at the Bank of England, where he made significant contributions to the development of monetary policy frameworks and inflation targeting.
