Merle Oberon

Estelle Merle O'Brien Thompson (February 19, 1911 – November 23, 1979), professionally known as Merle Oberon, was a British-American actress who achieved prominence during Hollywood's Golden Age. Born in Bombay, India, to a mixed-race family, Oberon later adopted a pseudonym and obscured her racial heritage due to the racial prejudices prevalent in 1930s Hollywood—a biographical complexity that reflected the era's discriminatory practices. She began her film career in British cinema before transitioning to Hollywood, where she achieved stardom through roles in prestigious productions.
