Marcus Luttrell

Marcus Luttrell (born November 7, 1975) is a retired United States Navy SEAL who became widely known for his role in Operation Red Wings, a covert military operation in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan in 2005. During this mission, his four-man reconnaissance team was discovered and ambushed by a much larger Taliban force. After intense combat resulting in the deaths of his three teammates, Luttrell managed to evade capture and survive in the mountains with severe injuries, eventually being sheltered by local Afghan villagers.
