Marc Bolan
T. Rex frontman, glam rock pioneer, cultural icon
Marc Bolan (1947–1977) was a British rock musician and songwriter who became the face of glam rock and one of the defining artists of the 1970s. Born Michael Philip Bolan, he began his career as a mod singer before finding success with the psychedelic rock band Tyrannosaurus Rex (later shortened to T. Rex). With his distinctive voice, poetic lyrics, and increasingly flamboyant stage presence, Bolan helped pioneer the glam rock movement alongside David Bowie. T. Rex achieved massive commercial success in Britain between 1970 and 1973, producing hit singles like "Bang a Gong (Get It On)," "20th Century Boy," and "Jeepster." Bolan's androgynous appearance, featuring makeup, wild hair, and sequined costumes, challenged conventional masculinity in rock music and influenced fashion and identity expression far beyond the music industry. His poetic, mythology-laden lyrics often referenced fantasy and spirituality, creating a distinctive artistic vision. Beyond music, Bolan appeared in films and television, expanding his cultural impact. His career was tragically cut short when he died in a car accident at age 29, but his influence on rock music, fashion, and popular culture remains immense. He is credited as a crucial architect of glam rock's aesthetic and attitude.

Thinking about the name
Marc
Latin origin
“The French and Catalan form of Mark, derived from the Roman god Mars and meaning 'dedicated to Mars' or 'warlike.' Marc carries classical European sophistication and has been borne by artists, designers, and cultural figures throughout history. It's a refined, cosmopolitan choice that feels both traditional and contemporary.”
