She achieved lasting fame as co-writer (with Tommy Durden) of 'Heartbreak Hotel,' which became Elvis Presley's breakthrough hit in 1956 and established him as a major force in rock and roll. She appeared on radio programs and television variety shows, and was instrumental in encouraging her son Hoyt's musical career. Mae's contributions to popular music extended beyond her own compositions—she was a mentor and advocate for other musicians and songwriters. Her legacy as a pioneer in songwriting and female representation in the entertainment industry continues to be recognized by music historians and contemporary artists.

Thinking about the name
Axton
English origin
“Derived from Old English, Axton likely means 'Acca's stone' or 'Axel's stone/town,' combining a personal name with -ton (settlement). Axton has emerged as a contemporary favorite, offering the sharp sound of Axel with a place-name grounding that feels both modern and established.”
