Mabelle Normand

Mabelle Normand (November 10, 1892 – February 23, 1930) was an American silent film actress and comedian who became a major star during the silent film era of the 1910s and 1920s. Born in Staten Island, New York, Normand began her film career in 1911 and quickly became known for her exceptional talent in slapstick comedy and physical humor. She was a pioneering figure at Keystone Studios under the direction of Mack Sennett, where she appeared in numerous comedies and demonstrated remarkable range as both a comedic and dramatic actress. Normand was one of the few women to achieve star status and creative control in the male-dominated early film industry, and she was admired for her intelligence, beauty, and comedic timing. Despite her success, her career was marred by personal scandals and health issues. She died at age 37 from tuberculosis, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most talented performers of the silent film era.
