Luise Rainer
First consecutive Academy Award winner, Golden Age Hollywood actress
Luise Rainer (January 12, 1910 – December 30, 2014) was an Austrian-American actress who achieved remarkable success during Hollywood's Golden Age and holds the distinction of being the first performer ever to win consecutive Academy Awards. Born in Vienna, Austria, Rainer began her theatrical career in Europe before being brought to Hollywood by MGM in the mid-1930s. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1936 for her role in 'The Great Ziegfeld' and again in 1937 for 'The Good Earth,' making her the first actor in Academy Award history to win the award in consecutive years. This unprecedented achievement made her an international star and brought her significant recognition and acclaim. Despite her early success, Rainer chose to step away from the demanding studio system and retired from acting at the height of her career, valuing her privacy and personal life over continued stardom. She lived to be 104 years old, one of the longest-lived actresses in Hollywood history. Her legacy represents both the remarkable talent of performers during Golden Age Hollywood and a rare example of an artist who consciously chose to leave the spotlight on her own terms.

Luise
Germanic origin
“The Germanic feminine form of Louis, meaning 'famous warrior' or 'renowned in battle.' Luise has a distinctly European elegance, particularly strong in German-speaking regions, and offers a soft yet dignified alternative to the more common Louise.”
