Louis Pasteur

Louis Pasteur (December 27, 1822 – September 28, 1895) was a French chemist and microbiologist whose contributions fundamentally transformed medicine and biology. Through meticulous experimentation, Pasteur proved that diseases were caused by microorganisms, disproving the prevailing theory of spontaneous generation. His discovery revolutionized our understanding of fermentation, disease transmission, and infection prevention. Pasteur developed the germ theory of disease and pioneered pasteurization, a process that eliminates harmful bacteria in food and beverages—a technique still bearing his name. He successfully developed vaccines for anthrax and rabies, with his rabies vaccine becoming one of medicine's greatest triumphs after he used it to save a young boy's life in 1885. Pasteur founded the Pasteur Institute in Paris, which became a world center for research and training.
