Lerone Bennett Jr. (1928–2018) was an influential American historian, journalist, and author who served as executive editor of Ebony magazine from 1958 until his retirement, helping shape one of the most important African American publications of the twentieth century. Born in Mississippi, Bennett earned his degree from Morehouse College and began his journalism career at the Atlanta Daily World.
