Leigh Hunt

James Henry Leigh Hunt was born on October 19, 1784, in Southgate, London, and became one of the most influential literary figures of the Romantic era. He began his career as a journalist and critic, founding the liberal periodical 'The Examiner' with his brother John in 1808. Through his journalism, Hunt championed innovative young poets including John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Lord Byron, using his platform to promote new voices and challenge conservative literary tastes. His political opinions were progressive and often controversial; he famously faced imprisonment for his criticism of the Prince Regent.
